The idea being that Mr. C. would never willingly put the ring on while he is "alive." My question is this: What can actually kill Mr. C? We've already seen him shot, and he was brought back to life by the dirty bearded woodsmen. He has superhuman strength. He's a billionaire. He understands cell phones. Dougie can barely say "cherry pie."
Perhaps only another 'immortal' can kill him. Is Good Coop an immortal? Maybe he was created by the Giant/Fireman. We see that he has access to what is believed to be the White Lodge when he's sitting with the Giant in ep 1.
It also occurred to me that Good Coop / Dougie is somehow 'protected.' He's like Walking Karma. Even in an unknowing state he apparently cannot be injured or harmed b/c he is INTRINSICALLY GOOD. His presence bends the bad intentions of those around him towards good. Or at minimum, they are foiled in their evil plans.
Re: the Ring, I do think Mike is trying to help engineer the return of Bad Coop to the Lodge. I don't think this makes Mike necessarily "good" or "bad." It could just be that the rules of the lodge are the rules, and it's someone else's turn to host Bob. Like Jeffries, or anyone else. But Bad Coop wants to pretty much run the show and overthrow the current order.
Good Coop is wandering around in a daze, but radiates goodness - look at Janey, look at the insurance guy, the Mitchums.
I now think he won't recover until Bad Coop is dead, that's the meaning of the "one of you must die", there can only be one cogniscent Cooper in the world.
Hmm... Just rewatched the scene where Mr C kills Ray.
Ray says the ring was given to him "right after I walked out of my cell and saw you".
This means that Ray has been in prison sometime prior to the start of this season. So are there more than one ring? If not, then we are -just as some of you have suggested- dealing with different timelines. How else could you explain that Dougie was wearing the same ring at the start of this season? And for how long had Douige been wearing it? Hmm...

There has been pondering and debate over whether there is more than 1 ring. But when Dougie disappeared, the ring went back to the waiting room. Just like it went back when Ray died. Then Mike Gerrard picked picked them both up.
Also, this sequence had me wondering if it isn't Mike who is orchestrating all of this in order to "be with Bob again." Or maybe he just collects rings.
But when Mike puts the ring on the table, there is no other ring there.

Maybe he put the other one in his pocket or his nightstand.....who knows. 🙂
Was it Mike who made sure Ray had the ring to put on Mr. C?

Hi Eric,
Ray got arrested after the dinner with him, Mr. C, Darya and Jack. In the phone call that Mr. C was eavesdropping on between Darya and Ray, Ray tells her he had just been arrested for transporting weapons across state lines.
Glad to be of service! 😉
