Looks like Team Beulah has been a magnificent failure.

It's a world of truck drivers.

The biggest issue here is that the trick of Douglas Jones turning into some kind of marble and the phone on the table in  Buenos Aires turning as well into a marble/microchip seem to be strongly related (also appearing soon one scene after the other).  And since Buenos Aires sounds like Philip Jeffries we have to assume Jeffries was on BadCoop side and actually helped him creating Douglas Jones. The phone call also showed that BadCoop trusted Jeffries as a Friend.

So what happened?  I have a feeling Mike is inhabiting Philip Jeffries.  Given that Bowie is dead it looks like a good narrative solution as well.

I seem to recall that Mr. C made that phone call after killing Darya. So it's possible he stole that phone/device from her and tried to contact whomever she was in business with, since Mr. C had found out that someone hired her and Ray to kill him and he assumed it was Phillip Jeffries. Although of course the man on the phone said something like "I missed you in New York", which seems to imply they were meant to met each other.

I think he's just using her phone to contact Jeffries not looking for clues,  since he believes Darya doesn't really know anything about the man who wants to kill him (Why would She die for a revelation she couldn't care less? ). He's expecting to speak with Jeffries and presumably he recognizes his voice as well,  it's just when Jeffries (?) intentions  are revealed that he starts questioning if that's really Jeffries.  Mike inhabiting him and therefore being in and out of him, makes sense on more levels (the explaination of that Phone Call, Jeffries apparent double game,  and most of all the best plan Mike could think about to stop BadCoop.  Finally the ring being with Mike then Jeffries is such a strong hint in all this)

I just re-watched that scene last night (the one in the motel room when he's talking with "Jeffries," and it sounds nothing David Bowie.

I dunno.... it seems kind of odd to even use the character if they couldn't get Bowie back. So far, I don't see why it's been necessary.

Maybe because they started writing it when Bowie was alive and available?

My thoughts:

1. Jeffries found one of the seven portals in Buenos Aires and is now a 5th dimension being and morphs into a modem to be able to talk on the phone.

2. Mike's end goal is to bring Bob back to the BL By bring his host back til the lodge.

3. Diane is probably in league with Jeffries and Mike trying to get Bad Coop back in the lodge.

4. Bad Coop and Bob wants to being death and destruction to the earth by bringing Mother here (Mother is the symbol on the card). Mike and the Giant knows this.

5. The return is about both returning Coop to the real world and returning Bob to the BL, stop Armageddon and recreate the balance.

Also, the accountant type at the arm wrestling gang clubhouse is the billionaire (maybe)

It's not necessarily the case that Bowie would appear - much as I would love to see him, since the question of other, non appearing cast members, was dealt with in the phone call between the Truman brothers.

Jeffries can be a voice on the phone, a character mentioned by others, a letter or email.  Doesn't mean we'll get to see the late Mr Jones, sadly.

Maybe I missed this, but as far as I've heard Ray got the ring from a guard, Jeffries only instructed him on what to do with it.

This is a super interesting point. No thread I've read has talked about the modem morph since that episode aired.

When Bad Coop phones "Jefferies" from the hotel in episode 2 "Jefferies" says, "You're still in Buckhorn." Bad Coop says back, "I see you're still NOWHERE..." Which is fascinating in the context of what you just guessed about Jefferies. He's somehow displaced. Which makes some sense since we saw Bowie bouncing around (apparently involuntarily) in FWWM.

A reminder. In this same conversation, "Jefferies" says to Bad Coop, "You're going back into the Lodge tomorrow and I will be with Bob." Which supports the consensus that Mike & Jefferies are in league to get Bad Coop (still housing Bob, presumably) back to the BL.

For a brief moment when the insurance guy was tipping his coffee down the sink, I thought Jeffries was using the urinal! :d

Well, it wouldn't be the bellhop from the hotel in Argentina, given what happened to him.  😉
