I just came across an article from NPR today highlighting the harvest of huckleberries.
That caused me to wonder if Norma used to use preserved ingredients then switched over the years or if the writing staff on Twin Peaks didn't know that huckleberries are specifically seasonal. I've looked up what a jar of huckleberry pie filling costs, and it dropped my jaw.
Lots of Norma's special pies have very expensive ingredients: gooseberry, lingonberry, huckleberry. These are hard to come by in most of the USA.
But mostly cherries. Very abundant in late spring/early summer in WA.

Funny no apples, since that's always been a huge Washington contribution.

Even though seasons 1 and 2 were set in February and March.

Cold storage. No one said they were RIGHT off the tree. 🙂

Maybe Norma has a thing against apples. Maybe after growing up surrounded by orchards, she's sick and tired of them. I can identify with that.
He doesn't deserve any!
James has never ever been cool! He isn't even luke warm enough for a slice of Marie Callenders-straight-from-you-grocers-freezer huckleberry pie.
Norma's pie is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh no!
Sorry.
