In the original series' James used a very expensive Gibson L5 CES. A conservative estimate would put the guitar in the 10 000$ + price range. Hard to put a year on it since Gibson made that model (and still do) since the 30's. The pickups indicate 1958 and after.
In the new season, tonight, James played a 900$ Epiphone Emperor.
Sounded exactly the same...

I'm pretty sure they simply used the same audio from the original series.

Indeed.  In any case, did anyone really think they actually perform live in those sequences?  If so, the Chromatics have a keyboard player who is a ninja, or owns a cloaking device.

Even allowing for inflated UK prices and the current bad showing against the dollar, 10 grand US is way out.

Very surprised of that price!!! Gibson makes new ones for 10 000 USD$. Vintage ones generally go for way higher.

Obviously the same audio, yes.

I'll stick to me Les Paul and Strat.  Never been a fan of hollowbody jazz guitars, but I'd have one for the fun of it, maybe.

Vintage stuff have been going for crazy prices in the last few years this side of the pond. And with my Canadian dollars, my small bass collection will stay as is for a while.

My bass collection is tiny - a single Precision.

No, I know they're all lip-syncing.  But they could have had Mr. Marshall sing anew with the surrogate Donna & Madeleine.

I'm sticking with the ninja keyboard player theory.  May not be right but it's way more fun.

We used to have a ninja drummer; always went invisible when gear needed moving.

Did anyone notice James actually "playing" the guitar.  Yes, I know he wasn't organically playing it, it was a sound stage.  But he actually missed a chord and tried to compensate for it.

Just like the hiding drummer & bass player in original show version of "just you & I."
