"Maybe that's why it feels so disjointed to everyone, because apart from the  "Buckhorn", "New York", "Las Vegas" captions, there's been damn all in the way of explanation, exposition or the general hand holding that happens with television and movies."

Nope. Rectify didn't do any hand-holding either and it was amazing. The key difference is that show had a soul and focus.

I'm confused why you're still here. So far you've had nothing good to say about the series.

Why are you still watching? Are you going to continually critique it until you hope to change our minds?

Come on now. We're on EP15. If you don't like it now, just go do one already, rather than trying to constantly add negativity to the forum. We know you don't like the series. You've given it enough critique already. I'm just confused why you keep banging on about it rather than get on with your life and watch something else.

I have already quit it. I'm only on this thread responding to Badalamenti's questions because there is no PM function. And why does negativity bother you or any other fan? In my years of online entertainment discussion forums I have never told anyone with a negative opinion to stop posting. I don't know why anyone with a balanced approach would. Anyone secure in their appraisal of any artwork can withstand well-backed up criticism easily. Why are Return's fans so touchy and want to keep their spaces free from anyone who doesn't gush?

It sounds kinda cultish honestly.

And why is there an imposed limit on critique, but not the "OMG, best TV ever" reactions I see everywhere?

It makes even less sense considering this is a critical thread. Look at the OP's post.

I just don't understand why, if as you say you've already quit, why you keep critiquing it. Maybe a recent episode may have changed your mind. It's like critiquing a film if you only watched half of it. It's not possible to do so honestly.

I'm just saying what I suspect everyone else is thinking to be honest. I couldn't care if you liked the series or not, nor could anyone else. Adding snipey comments here and there, when you feel like expressing your negativity like your recent Q&A one.

I guess what I'm saying really is - it's fine that you don't like it. I get that. But there comes a time when you just gotta move on with your life and get over it. It comes across as... odd.

I'll stop replying to your negative comments now and you can stop replying to mine. We've both said what we think. Life goes on. It's just a TV series.

Post for Badalamenti:

I was actually much more Lynch-positive before The Return started. I even enjoyed IE to a point. This season has completely crashed my opinion of him. I actually don't believe in personal genius (usually perceived as male). I believe in the genius of individual works of art. It seems like the planets have to collide for something truly great to be created - it's not just that one persons' achievement.

My axe to grind with Lynch is that he has no artistic discipline. In the past it was always someone else keeping him in check: De Laurentis made him cut down Blue Velvet to 2 hours, Twin Peaks was constrained by network TV, Mulholland Dr. by its' unique budgetary circumstances etc. When he's left to his own devices - the self-indulgence goes through the roof.

My idea of a truly self-disciplined show-runner is Vince Gilligan. Breaking Bad was on cable and had a gangster-type story, but with that had zero female nudity, no explicit sex and minimal graphic violence. I can't remember any swearing at all. The directing style was surgically precise - there was not an extraneous second of footage. Vince needs to open some kind of disciplinary school for TV show-runners and film-makers in general.
