I was drifting off to sleep last night and the Warden Murphy assassination scene was playing in my head. Now that Chantal & Gary Hutchens have eliminated the warden and traumatised his young son, I think their next target will be Dougie. It would not surprise me if the hit on Dougie involved also his son. I don't think Sonny Jim has long to live.

Yeah, Mr. C told them about a 'doubleheader' in Vegas, could refer to Cooper/Dougie and his son.....Mr. C told Duncan to take care of Dougie, while Hutch and Chantal could be his backup to make sure it gets done....either that or the 'doubleheader' could refer to his rivals, the Mitchums.....

There does seem to be a theme throughout of kids either being in danger, coming into harm, or witnessing bad things.

Yes, b/c it adds to the brutality.

Lynch's overall concept of humanity (especially Dumbland) is that we're mostly petty, murderous psychopaths. Kids being stripped of their innocence early is part of his worldview.

I understand where he's coming from, but I don't find it as useful to think that way anymore. I'm looking for more of the noble & good - the CARL - in people these days. Focusing on the negative tends to pull it towards you.

I personally think that the scene with the killing of The Warden was completely unnecessary. We didn't need to see that. Unless the story behind that Mr Strawberry-thing is gonna unravel. But I very much doubt that.
However, I think you might be right about that brutality thing, and that would be the only thing that could justify that scene.
I'm still kinda puzzled that we didn't get to see the killing of Bill Hastings' secretary. DL sure seem to have a peculiar way when it comes to prioritize which scenes to be shown and which ones to be left in the vault.

I think the scene told you what type of people you are dealing with. We have not seen the people working with Mr. C except for Ike kill. But notice they people who are killing seem inhuman in this. If Lynch is comparing our world to the world of the lodges, we live as mixture of that which feeds on pain and suffering of others and that which protects and uplifts. Lynch paints characters that are complex and have both parts of this and there are some who are much in the extreme.

I think Carl is a perfect example.

What is light without dark?

This was the whole point of Sarah Palmer saying It's a goddamn bad story, isn't it?” and warning the kids, things are not alright in twin peaks precisely because people dealt with the problems that led to the Laura Palmer tragedy by hiding from them and pretending everything was alright, like at Laura's funeral where the community still pretended that everything was great and it was just an accident, while Laura and Bobby knew that Laura was calling for help, while no one cared wouldnt let it bother their self satisfaction and complacency in a rotten world destroying the future.   Carl had to see the problems as problems in order to deal with them(seeing the gold flame over the killed boy), Carl 'doesnt like' people selling their blood, thus is driven to try and fix what is going on.  Miriam has no insurance, Richard has no father, Criskol has to sell his blood, dating is making people vicious, mad and corrupted(they are eating the new jerky), twin peaks kids are becoming 'grade a' students of this life, while people like Jean Michel, Red, and Mr. C capitalize on their growing misery and self destruction; and these are problems that cannot be fixed by just saying, everything is great, that was just some 'bad guy' or mistake, a superhero is going to fix things, the superhero is Mr. C/billionaires. This is why Carl, the manager of a trailer park is one of the 'heros' just by recognizing the problems exist and doing some minimal things about it, having a basic decency and honor rather than hiding.  Another theme has been just hiding the problems(white on the surface, black within), thus normalizing them no matter how bad they get: for instance, Mullins was upset about the corrupt cops and the insurance scam, but the payoff from his 'doubling down' allowed him to get very happy and pretend everything was great in the world, he could live 'viva las vegas' and things are great with Dougie and the Mitchums.  As long as people hit a 'jackpot', they forget about all the problems and repeat them, I think this is why the psychologist was trying to get Audrey to face her problems with her 'husband' instead of running off to the roadhouse in search of a 'quick fix', its ultimately a self-destruction(like we see with that group of 'daters' at the roadhouse) that doesnt even recognize the problems existence, allowing Mr. C/billionaires free reign to drain from everyone, who are trying to be like 'breaking bad', but have no insurance.  Dougie was manufactured as this 'white cover' of Mr. C's 'black within', docile suburbanite pretending things are great as he slowly degrades into rancho rosa with Jade while trying to look up to 'breaking bad' Mr. C/billionaires life, a sort of idealizing crime, not fixing or thinking about the genuine problems emerging, in everyday life under the reign of Mr. C/billionaires, that no one is dealing with(blue rose 'abstractions' arising from unsolvable case which need a new approach), then believing some savior or 'jackpot' is going to fix the downward momentum....end up dead with a stroke in rancho rosa...the superhero coming is some guy caught up in money/power games, looking to kill someone in his way and move on...

As I drifted off I had the awful thought that the "doubleheader" in Vegas could actually be Albert and Gordon and that Mr.C's text to Diane (though I'm still holding out for her correspondent not being Mr.C) was a ruse to get them down there, since - if it was Mr.C - I'd bet my bottom dollar that he would have worked out that the FBI are listening in.

I hope it was just the addled brain of doziness.

I am also quite fearful for Sonny Jim and Janey-E.

I don't think the doubleheader involves Sonny Jim. Not saying he's safe and there's no possibility he might end up being the victim, but it seems pretty straigthforward to me that the other one is Duncan Todd. He's failed a few times on the task he's been given and probably knows too much about Mr. C who, on the other hand, this far has killed a lot of his associates once he didn't need them anymore.

I think the scene might be meaningful because the homicide happened in South Dakota and the FBI guys will likely receive the news. Also, and this is something that came to my mind while writing, what if the text Diane received about "Vegas" to which she answered "they haven't asked yet" might be referring not about Gordon and Albert but instead about those two guys? Maybe Diane is in charge of giving them the names of the people they have to kill in Vegas. After all, what do Albert and Cole know about Vegas? And this might bring the whole crew to Vegas, if they're tracking Diane communication. I don't think it's very likely, I don't like it in the bigger picture, but still I can't understand why Albert and Gordon should be supposed to ask anything about Vegas.

I still feel the double header is the Mitchum Brothers and has to do with the insurance scam and the fact they put a hit out on Ike. It just seems too obvious to be Dougie/Janey-E and Dopplecoop already thought Ike was taking care of it.

Double header = Coop and Candie for me.  DoppelCoop wants rid of the lodge spirits.

That is interesting, there is the feeling from that conversation at the beginning that Cole is slipping/getting too comfortable right when he is in a quite important and dangerous situation, but Albert is there, so maybe he will be able to maintain himself sufficiently.  Also, they are passing onto a new generation, Tammy.

I could easily see Mr. C dealing with Dougie himself once he finds out that Duncan has failed, then we would get Cooper/Cooper showdown which might somehow lead to the re-emergence of Agent Cooper proper.  I dont think Mr. C is yet planning to kill Duncan, since he has not gotten news yet that Duncan's plan has failed, but once he does he may very well kill Duncan, after all he did warn him that it better be done the next time he calls.

Also, I think Cole et al could be led to Las Vegas via Twin Peaks, since they now have those coordinates and may contact Truman who has the old Cooper room key which could make him contact the FBI and or Fuscoes once he tracks the mail and sees that it came from Las Vegas.  Truman could contact the FBI about why Agent Cooper is mailing in a key from Las Vegas, since they are now investigating a case related to Cooper, thus Cole et al could go to Las Vegas directly once they hear this in the search for Cooper.

At first I honestly didn't realise that the old man was Warden Murphy. Maybe I'm stupid, but I kept wondering who the hell the old man who got shot was... I didn't realise until the credits credited Warden Murphy and Warden Murphy's Son.

I think the double header in Las Vegas is definitely Dougie Jones and Duncan Todd.

Just to clarify: Mr. Strawberry is the Warden's dog, right? I've heard some folks thinking it's an unresolved thread, but I thought it was clear Mr. C kidnapped or had the dog kidnapped to intimidate the warden. A dog leg was found in Mr. C's car after all. Right??
