I didn't mind the French date.  I spent much of the scene thinking that she was playing a Lil character with all of the exaggerated facial expressions and movement.  Nope, just Cole's date. I thought it was funny - and I turned it into a red herring.

she is definitely more than she looks for....always remember that lynch loves to hide small details and part of his "code" in weird scenes that seem meaningless but they are not! never take Lynch for granted he is telling us something bigger I just dont know what yet

there is something behind his sentence about the mom and the missing daughter

Don't forget the French flag in the same hotel 2 episodes ago.  I feel like that is telling us to pay attention to her.  Which isn't hard; she looks fabulous in heels.

Aside from the humor of landing the best dad joke, this scene reminded me of the scene in Fire Walk With Me where the lady is outside of the plain providing a number of clues about the meaning of the case.

If these scenes share correlations in purpose, that may be why Albert seemed so patient during it.

I bit my pillow during this scene. Didn't want to wake my house up. So unbelievably funny.  So long so funny so painful.

She is visiting a friend of her mother who owns a turnip farm and whose daughter has gone missing.

Could the daughter be Darya?

What exactly IS a turnip farm? Tried to google it and it seems to be a sort of an urban expression more than a real reference to some farm.

Of course it's a great Dinosaur Jr. song, but that doesn't seem to help now...

Kept waiting for Albert to lose his patience and shove her out the door

Having spent a good bit of time in South Dakota,  I can't determine if the bigger mystery is why there is such a swanky hotel in Buckhorn or why there is a woman like that in said hotel?  Both seem as unlikely as the existence of Bob.

No-one? No native speakers (for example) around who could explain this? I feel like I'm missing part of the joke...

Buckhorn is called the Paris of the Dakotas.

I believe the vegetable of choice being a turnip was entirely to set up the pun that the daughter will "turnup" soon. A turnip farm is literally a farm that grows turnips, which is a vegetable that can be wholly consumed - the root can be cut up and then boiled and mashed like potato and the greens can be prepared like spinach. It's also not a very popular vegetable but I am not sure if that's significant.
