At the risk of KILLING someone else's thread (seriously, I was looking back at several older threads and it seems I've killed more than BoB) I thought I'd start a fresh one about Carl.

I've been rooting for this character all along. I'm surprised no one has mentioned him yet this week (sorry if I missed it... I got here early Monday and there were already a gazillion threads)

The reference to 'keep your blood' seemed to be a warning of what Carl knows is happening, and he wants to protect folks. (I realize there could very well be a dark side to this too. I hope Carl isn't trying to 'fatten up' the herd for slaughter. If that turns out to be the case, boy have I been thrown for a loop on this character.) Carl is one of my heroes... he simply MUST be a good guy, correct??

Carl is an original Bookhouse Boy. He's a good guy.

Carl is the best!

Thanks for this positive note. Indeed, the only reference to the Carl scene so far was negative, as a pointless filler.

I did post a Carl is Awesome post for this episode but that is ok.
Carl is an original Bookhouse Boy and if you read his story in the Secret History one of three children abducted in the woods that came back. Of the other two, one is the log lady and the third passed away in his twenties. They all ended up with burn marks like the major.

It seems they were taken to be protectors for the rest, they seem to guide people through the pain.  Sorry my theory here.

Jeffery,

Do we know if the dead guy or Carl have tattoos like Log Lady and MGR Briggs?

I love Carl. He seems like a real stand-up guy who looks after his people. The kind of guy you'd want to go to for advice or just a chat.

And given his established connection with whatever extra-dimensional stuff is going on, plus being an original Bookhouse Boy, I'm rooting for him to play a big role when everyone starts arriving at Twin Peaks.

He can play any role they want, as long as it doesn't start before mid morning.

I thought the doctors report in the Secret History mentioned the scar / mark for all the children it might have just been for Margaret. I will have to reread.

I do think the Character is awesome, there is a good human who cares but seems to no the limit of interference that can effective. He seems to create an environment where people can heal if the need it and watches for those that may be in trouble. I really like that calm perspective in the light of what really is looking like psychic chaos.

I laugh at the notion of asking a judge and family for permission to dig up a guy who has been dead for decades just so we can look at his tattoo.  Can't imagine trying to justify that without ending up in the mental institution.

I think Carl's a good person, and that's why he told the corpulent fellow with the walking cane to save his blood, and his money.

And, while I do like, Carl, and appreciate his kindness to the slain kid's mother in episode, and his ability to spring into action to help Shelly in episode 11, he does have his selfish moments. The nonchalant way he reacted to the young couple's fight (with something being thrown through a window, no less) did not endear him to me much.

Granted, I didn't expected a 90-year-old to go and break-up a domestic fight between two people seventy years his junior, but, damn... call the police or something.

I agree with everything, but I'd also say he seems to have changed a lot since his days in Deer Meadow.

In character as Carl or as Harry Dean Stanton, he is an amazing guy.  Superb actor, immensely talented bloke.
