It's been a long time of wondering and I'm glad to hear at last that Chester Desmond has been in fact confirmed as a real person and not just Agent Cooper's projected avatar in a dream. I don't know how that came about to begin with. Did it have something to do with the Cooper tapes book? I never read it, and I'm not interested in paying a premium for something that's out of print.

This feels like a big relief to me, a chance to finally solidify that Chet is his own person and really did go missing just like Jeffries.

You see I feel so differently I thought that at the very least we would get some thing other then he is missing.. I already knew that.. I have known that for over 20 years now

Of course he is/was a real person.  He also starred in Fire Walk With Me.  And disappeared while reaching for the ring with the evil logo on it underneath the car with the dirty windshield that had the writing, "Let's Rock"

Twin Peaks is a show full of mysteries, some of them unexplained. Chet Desmond's disappearance could just be one of them.

oh yeah, I didn't really think about how this disproves that theory about the first half of FWWM all being Cooper's dream until I read your comment here. It was a pretty well worked out theory, but I never bought it personally. Of course, I am also always really hesitant to appeal to something being a dream when it comes to Lynch.

I found a source where someone drew connections to the similarities between Cooper and Desmond to validate they were really one in the same.

I never bought into it because there's physical proof that Desmond existed, and the Missing Pieces outright show Sam talking to Cooper about Chet. But beyond proof, the two characters (Cooper and Desmond) don't act anything like each other.

That's the short version. The whole worked out theory would be pages and pages long, dates back to the 90s. I am sure you could find it on the internet. But then again, it seems pretty debunked at this point.

That was obvious to anyone who paid attention to FWWM.

I never really bought the theory that Desmond was Cooper. It didn't really make much sense to me with the information presented in FWWM and the Missing Pieces. So I'm somewhat glad that it's been definitively disproved (although it was disproved for me long ago).

If I remember correctly, Desmond's parts were originally written to be carried out by Dale Cooper. But, since Kyle MacLachlan didn't really care to appear in the movie at all (but luckily agreed to appear in some key scenes) the character of Chester Desmond was added in, as well as that disappearing act of his.

What would've seemed like a flaw in production if this information had leaked in 1992, was another one of those happy accidents pretty much trademarked by David Lynch. Desmond was a magnificent addition to the mythos, I think.
