This was an episode with a lot of homages (Seven, The Godfather) and I'm pretty sure this, and the scene of poor Miriam crawling out of the grass, was a damn fine Night of the Living Dead homage. But clearly the kids ain't all right in this town.
Remember part 8, black and white scene with man and woman in car, stopped by "got a light" guy??? They were both awestruck, the lady screamed/moaned in weird slow motion kind of way. Wisely, the man drove on down the road. Our new 'honker lady' reminded me of her. Wouldn't it be wild if the screamer lady and honker lady are same person. Aside from being put to sleep, we don't know how that "this is the water... broadcast" affected the townsfolk. Maybe some acquired ability to bend time.

This whole scene reminded me of the scene in FWWM with Leland and Laura in the car, when the one-armed man confronts him. Chaos and disorder, and the walls between the rational and and mad grown suddenly VERY thin.

Miriam crawling out of the grass reminded me of a scene in Day of the Woman/I Spit On Your Grave.
Was the Godfather homage a song that the pianist played? It reminded me of the Godfather, but it's been so long since I've seen it.
I was really happy to see that Miriam survived. My best friend shouted out that Richard Horne was a ****ty villain, when she came out. Haha!

When the Mitchum brothers take Dougie out to "Santino's" for dinner. Two "bad guys" and our hero at an Italian restaurant named after Santino Corleone. XD

I'm pretty sure the scene in the desert was a Se7en reference.
