I am a huge fan of Twin Peaks, especially the current season, and I recently joined the site to share in the excitement.  I think The Return has already been the greatest work of film and art that I've ever seen!

I wanted to share my view that Cooper's situation is reminiscent of the Sleeping Beauty tale. I was thinking that Cooper, who is basically asleep, needs to be awaken by Laura or someone else. Then it hit me that, in the beginning before Cooper leaves the Lodge, he gets a kiss from Laura. Thus, could that scene actually be set in the future, before Cooper wakes up?

And maybe it occurs in this world through the vehicle of Candie (who BTW is definitely my favorite character in The Return). Watching part 11 again,  I noticed that, in the last shot before the cut to the pianist, Candie is smiling at Cooper, but he looks down. Kind of a brilliantly understated cliffhanger!

What do you guys think?

The "Is it future or is it past?" line has been done before with Fire Walk With Me, and both times I overlooked how important it was. I have a comprehension of it from when The Arm said it in the movie. As for in The Return, I am still uncertain whether future or past Dale is living as Dougie.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

I think that's a good theory. You could very well be right!

Of course, in the Lynch universe, such famous tales may be thrown aside and instead something far more random or insidious could be the catalyst for waking him up.

I guess we'll (hopefully) find out soon enough 🙂

The Wizard of Oz was mixed into Wild at Heart, but not in a way you'd expect.
