This could be way off- but is anyone else finding it a little strange how Diane is always very very motivated to smoke a cigarette? There have been multiple instances where she has been told not to do so, and either insisted or simply done so anyway. Here's what I'm thinking...

As scene in the previous season of Twin Peaks, the One-Armed-Man (Mike) has a second (evil) personality [cannot remember the name..] which he is able to suppress through medication... this got me thinking since Diane is already acting a little strange- could she possibly have a similar case as the One-Armed-Man, with her medication being her cigarettes?
Might be a long shot but there's definitely something going on with her smoking... Let me know what you guys think.

To be honest when I smoked I was an ignorant git about smoking where I wasn't meant to.

I don't know about using the smoking to hold off possession - maybe.

But I definitely see her smoking as out of the usual character that Cole and Rosenfield know.

Did I imagine this, or in the previous episode did one of the police say "use a vape like the rest of us"?

Could also be a clue that her smoking is more than just a habit.

I was the one who said that and, to the best of my knowledge, I ain't an officer of the law.

I thought that she was chain smoking and drinking heavily due to her recent trauma.

If you had ever been a smoker, you would understand Diane's attitude.

I think Cole tricked her with his "Brings back memories" line

At some point he's going to confront her and tell her "Who's the F$$$$ are you? We never smoked together in the past" 🙂

Everyone in Twin Peaks smokes MORLEY, a fictional brand often used in movies, see Richard Horne in episode 5 for example.

Diane however smokes yellow American Spirit cigarettes. YOU KNOW WHO ELSE LIKES THAT BRAND?

no who?? seriously I have no idea

This is a cool thought... but still lost as to who you are hinting at- James? Bing? haven't seen either smoke but both play guitar in the recent season.
Love the plane theory though
