What is the sentence Dougie says at the very end? I don't understand.
You mean when Bradley Mitchum asked Candy to serve another piece of pie "For our friend!"
Cooper's answer is : "Friend" with a mouth full.
At least, it is what I believe. Yet, I could be mistaken. His answer could have been the key to decipher the jet window code announcing Alvin Straight return! I don't know?
You are correct- it is supported by the closed captioning.
If it is just one note, which note?!
D
(The note of Briggs' message capsule is also D but an octave higher).
That is, if tuning to a conventional frequency of 440Hz.
"Damn good pie..."
I thought he was awakening right then...
Me too. I actually yelled at the old woman for interrupting the pie and music moment.

You know what makes a healing sound at 430hz?!!!!!
Good catch! How appropriate to bring Coop Tibetan singing bowl!
Though you do know that the old Dale Cooper is never coming back, don't you?

The note from Carls VWhistle is also a D. Sort of.
It never truly occurred to me until this show how great of an actor Kyle MacLachlan is. I knew he was good, but the fact that he is able to fully flesh out these characters that could easily be over-the-top (think about it, a virtually comatose man and an identical man possessed by a spirit) through such subtle techniques speaks volumes about his ability. He is truly a gift to acting.
I agreed that he seems to bring Dale Cooper for a while, But why? Something happens with the music. The piano player starts to play slower, but I'm not sure why this works in Dougie/Dale.
Hi Iban,
To me, it was one single note that nearly woke the somnolant Cooper. =:-O
(with apologies to Pete Townshend)
There once was a note, pure and easy,
Playing so free, like a breath rippling by
The note is eternal, I hear it, it sees me,
Forever we blend it, forever we dieThere once was a note, listen
There once was a note, listen
There once was a note, listen .......😉

I've been desperately trying to figure out why he responded so strongly to the song. Is it something we've/he's heard before.

Or maybe he's just a huge Burt Bacharach fan and he likes the slow stuff. 🙂
Hi Brandy,
Just after the first toast from the Mitchums, the tempo of the music switches from allegro to adagio. Before the change, Coop is intently concentrating on his glass of champagne. On the first note - sustained much more than any of the following notes - the piano player immediately commands Coop's attention, before the second note is even played.
And then, in a beautiful and subtle bit of acting from Kyle MacLachlan, his eyes - for just a moment - go from Dougie-eyes to Cooper-eyes.
Unfortunately, this is the precise time that Mrs. Middle-Finger Jackpot enters and does her imitation of Laura in the Red Room and leans down to kiss Coop's cheek. I truly think that interrupted his awakening.
However, after re-watching this scene I noticed something I hadn't noticed before. After forking up a particularly large piece of cherry pie and shoveling it in:
Coop says "MMmmm." !!!
I am fairly sure this is the first syllable that Coop says that wasn't simply a repeat of the last few words someone else has said.
He didn't say "MMmmm" when he had pancakes, he didn't say "MMmmm" when he urinated for the first time in 25 years. Hell, he didn't even say "MMmmm" when he had his first cup of coffee!
Oh yes, folks, our Special Agent is waking up, and when he does, there will be hell to pay. 😉

But he said "he's lying" while Anthony Sinclair was speaking during the meeting.
Watching it again last night, I had the feeling the scene was a way of saying goodbye. Whether it's "Dougie" or Dale, I dunno.
Could be totally wrong, of course
I don't want to cling to these small things like Ric and Sam pointed out in hopes of seeing Dale again because it seems to be in vain, BUT I CAN'T HELP IT!

Hi Octavio,
Oh. Yeah. 😐
Yet another good theory ruined by the facts. CURSES!!
😉

The music playing was eerily similar to Laura Palmer's theme...could suggest that Laura is the key to waking Coop, since a faint presence of her in the music briefly seemed to bring him round
