Anyone know what song the piano player was playing there?
Heartbreaking by Angelo Badalamenti
Absolutely.
Is the piano piece that is playing/triggering this moment is "Heartbreaking"?
because if it is another piece it's name might be a clue for what exactly Cooper is missing in order to wake up.
I am almost resigned to believing that he will remain in a catotonic state as a result of having been in the lodge for so long it makes me sad ....
I have to remind myself that "Dougie's" catatonic state is not necessarily the result of being in the Black Lodge for 25 years... recall that Coop acts (relatively) normally in while in the Black Lodge and only becomes catatonic after extruding through the electrical outlet in the Rancho Rosa house... not sure if that's a meaningful distinction or not.
It's the cherry pie and the "damn good" quote that kicks off the transformation. He even says "damn good" in Dale voice, not Dougie voice. The slow, sad music brings him somewhere else. Anybody know the name of the song? There could be a clue there.
MIKE in the lodge seems to be pulling Cooper towards things that might wake him up (cherry pie, coffee). I thibk maybe when he has cherry pie AND a cup of joe simultaneously he's going to wake up.
Or, more dramatically, when his coworker tries to kill him we'll get a lodgy sequence followed by him waking up.
Kyle MacLachlan is going to win awards for sure.
The only thing that makes me think we will see the old Coop is the leaked shots from filming of him with a blonde girl who looked like Laura in Twin Peaks. That girl could now be Candie as we only saw blonde hair from behind but Kyles face.
I remember now. Wasn't it in front of the Palmers' house? I really don't think that's Candie though.. looks either like Laura or maybe even Shelly even though I'm not really sure what Shelly might have to do with this. On the other hand, it might as well be Janey-E, no?

Hi Dougie,
In my opinion, Coop's catatonia is caused by him being diverted by the eyeless woman in Part 3.
Recall that Cooper was about to go through Electrical Socket 15, but the woman in red with her eyes sewn shut pulls him away and gives him the flat-hand-on-the-neck "certain death" sign. She switches his destination before falling into the endless void of space.
The American Woman then feeds him through Electrical Socket 3. That is why he ended up in Dougie's place with a near child-like mental capacity.
Also recall that, just before leaving the Red Room, Coop looked out of a curtain and down upon Mr. C driving toward Buckhorn. If he had gone through ES15, he would have taken Mr. C's place and would have been our old, lovable, and aware Special Agent Dale Cooper.

I think it was Mr. C's plot that resulted in Dale's predicament. Mr. C was supposed to go back into the lodge, allowing for Dale's return. Mr. C manufactured Dougie to forestall that fate, with the result that Dale re-entered the world impaired, and thus an easy mark.
I think he re-entered through the correct socket. I think the fact that he fell into the "wrong" place initially was the doing of the Evolution of the Arm's doppelganger, and was intended to result in his "non-existence". The eyeless women came to his aid, and, at her own expense, got him to the "right" place.
It remains to be seen what it will take (or whether) Dale can be more fully restored. I really hope so, because I miss him. But TPTR is clearly not about our nostalgia. And in many ways, DL has taken on the roll that Dale had in the original series.
What is the sentence Dougie says at the very end? I don't understand.

You mean when Bradley Mitchum asked Candy to serve another piece of pie "For our friend!"
Cooper's answer is : "Friend" with a mouth full.
At least, it is what I believe. Yet, I could be mistaken. His answer could have been the key to decipher the jet window code announcing Alvin Straight return! I don't know?
I agreed that he seems to bring Dale Cooper for a while, But why? Something happens with the music. The piano player starts to play slower, but I'm not sure why this works in Dougie/Dale.
Hi Iban,
To me, it was one single note that nearly woke the somnolant Cooper. =:-O
(with apologies to Pete Townshend)
There once was a note, pure and easy,
Playing so free, like a breath rippling by
The note is eternal, I hear it, it sees me,
Forever we blend it, forever we die
There once was a note, listen
There once was a note, listen
There once was a note, listen .......
😉

I've been desperately trying to figure out why he responded so strongly to the song. Is it something we've/he's heard before.
If it is just one note, which note?!
Or maybe he's just a huge Burt Bacharach fan and he likes the slow stuff. 🙂
Sorry, I posted this already to another thread, but I think it's not just the music. Dougie seems to see two persons behind the piano player. After the old lady talks to him they disappear ...
