Just a minor observation, but it looks like somebody spray-painted circles around the manhole covers in the street, making them resemble... robot teddy's eyes?

Robot teddy is always there, on repeat horror for Richard and Johnny(and Laura). No getting rid of that 'tracking device'.

Hello Richard, how are you today?......Hello Richard, how are you today?

You know, I'm sure this is NOT the direction Lynch was going, but it strikes me now that we've had in the last two episodes:

- DougieCoop transfixed by the image of a U.S. flag (with similar red, white, and blue color scheme)

- A random two-seconds of a girl walking with a French flag (red, white, and blue again)

If the colors are all that matters, this last bit won't be connected at all, but to the mind of yours truly, who grew up with model aircraft and toy army men all around him, that symbol on the manhole (and I guess on Johnny's bear) looks strikingly similar to the familiar "roundel" of the Royal Airforce.   It should be noted that the "roundel" logo of the RAF was also in the familiar red, white, and blue design - something that may not jump out when looking at the rather earthy tones of the manhole cover/circles and the teddy bear.

Is there some WW2, western alliance theme going on here?  Does that have anything to do with the atomic bomb tests?

Robot Teddy Bear's function: Remember what happened to you in Pittsburgh Cooper? On repeat....definitely dont want to get cozy with a teddy bear there, end up like BOB/Woodsmen

Where to go from here? what watch will tell time? Richard to Alvin Straight/Paul 'Mua'dib' Atredis...

Quite possible. How could you not think of WWII while spending so much time and energy recreating Trinity. And, Frost certainly didn't hesitate drawing other connections to the war (e.g., von Braun).

There are no stars, no secret or redemption after that bombing, just the robotic teddy bear and BOB start all over again in slow boring decay sleepwalking and Mr. C/billionaire/mother reign of terror.....look at Johnny, no stars to be found, just the teddy bear, repeat over and over, nothing from it, just end up wanting to be BOB, decay into barbarism

There are stars and they produce the future of good old Chad, with Cooper reduced to Dougie/BOB....and Laura still crying, looking for help, but only finding Buck the truck driver....

You know, I'm now more convinced than before that there might be somethign to this whole notion of the US flag, the French flag, and now this suggestion of the RAF "roundel" symbol from WW2.

I mean all we have to do is apply the Red, White, and Blue color scheme that's been so prominent to those manhole circles/teddy bear eyes and BOOM - it's jumps out to you unmistakably.

But it was your mention of the song "No stars" that just caught my eye.  Is that Lynch, in ever-so-cryptic style, telling us that the red, white, and blue theme has nothing to do with the US?  Take the stars off our flag and you've got those basic colors.  The same colors on the French flag.  The same colors on the Roundel.

It was our own airforce behind Blue Book and Listening Post Alpha, after all.

I know, totally insane.  But maybe?

I dont think so, if you follow the color clues, the 'no stars' singer was wearing black and white, both non-colors.  What is basic here is not colors, but the absence of colors, void...there are no stars.  Colors just give away our interventions into reality, mediated light, etc.

So looking at different flags makes you question your own, the colors are not solid, people are doing it differently, there are no guaranteed colors or stars, etc, so mine are not guaranteed; then keep your space, think about things, realize that if there are no stars, then what is important is how you intervene/tell time in reality, and all people do this but do it differently and are attached to this, need space, get away from the robotic teddy  etc....

if there are stars/colors.... and you think you are guaranteed, you can drop the (a)bomb for sure, to hide there are no stars, believe there are stars like Richard and BOB(who believes in Laura after what he did to her, doesnt have to solve the problem), then of course get bombed, become burnt, Richard/Johnny is the future, your going down...etc...only going to end in barbarism and trying to cover it up with fake comforts(teddy bear robot abomination)  that themselves will be annihilated in BOBs wrath over time if Johnny is not given the chance to solve the problem....

For instance, Richard and Johnny cannot get to 'no stars' are stuck in colors(although Johnny wants to, just is tied down by people who want stars, he is like a Jesus figure), enjoying this beautiful day, guaranteed by billionaires-military, which of course leads inevitable to the death of freedom/law/justice, and the barbaric future and slow decay into the primordial slop that is Chad, immersion into nature, barbarism....

I should also note that the "RAF roundel" was itself copied from the French roundel.  The French Airforce (Armee de L'air)  had been the first to develop the "concentric ring of circles" that helped in definitively identifying high-flying (for the time) aircraft.

What I forgot to add here is that the void/'no stars', opens up a space to get out from the teddy, the space for thinking common to all, for example, what is the best way to run economy, what results from this etc...... like for example how a watch tells time..is like a thinking frame....laura is the one, if there are colors, drop the bomb on her, everything will be great, if there are no stars, she died tragically and her ghost that is haunting us must be redeemed by us here and now, the problem must be solved, the thread must be torn....

dropping a bomb, permanent war, terrorizing people(tying them up to look at the teddy, billionaire-Mr. C terror group) is not something trivial, i dont like you, drop the bomb, etc..... these people are the ones that need to go down; this was the whole idea of freedom and the french revolution, and reign of terror, people have rights, cannot just impose death and suffering on people for some trivial aristocratic stuff, real people are dying.....people are free, have rights, important etc.,

Wait, didn't Sylvia Horne tie up "Johnny" in front of the Teddy Bear?  Ostensibly because she couldn't control him and prevent him from running around and doing damage to himself?  I suppose there's a metaphor there for the way our caretakers in the government always think they can protect us from ourselves better than we can on our own, but I didn't take away from that she (Mrs. Horne) was an evil person who "needed to go down".

I think internally I just chalked that up to Lynch making some sort of homage to A Clockwork Orange's most memorable scene, and perhaps critiquing how vapid the experience of being a captive audience can be while we watch and listen to the same, cookie cutter stuff over and over and over again (there's even a plate of cookies next to the bear to drive this home).   Thinking here of how I make fun of my wife for all the "cookie cutter" tv dramas she watches.  You can slap a different title, cast, and producer on them but they are all the exact same show, every single time.

Problem here is thinking that because someone is harmed they are definitely good, or that if someone seems good, they are definitely good; that if someone is harming they are definitely bad, etc., you have to see the complex background of the situation, why they are doing what they are doing, and if its justified, etc.. When you take these people that seem good, and look at their relations, what effect they are having, there is plenty of room to see what bad they are involved in....for example, is it good to tie up Johnny and torture him with that bear because you are worried he is going to be hurt, doesnt seem like thats going to help Johnny, but actually make him want to run, hurt him more....more is going on than meets the eye, nothing is guaranteed, no stars, no atoms....(no one is perfect, they are capable of evil, etc.)

Not that Sylvia is the embodiment of pure evil, and definitely people are doing bad things against her that are wrong and should be stopped, but the wrong things done to her make her worse, as is often the case: is what she is going through going to make her an angel, its not exactly training for virtue, but quite the opposite? Sylvia tears into Ben and destroys his attempts to be good and reconcile the situation, tortures Johnny, etc......problem is that she is not trying to solve the problems, like Johnny wanted to do,  but Sylvia recreates it, maintains it...

Why did sylvia go bad? why did laura go bad, because when she was looking for help, going to doors crying etc., the ghost part of this episode, people just saw a color/star/atom, prom queen, everything is great, drop the bomb, it just feels right, end up like chad enjoying the beautiful day, regardless of anything that happens etc., absolutely no effort was exerted to truly solve the Laura mystery, since it threatened the color/atom of twin peaks/usa as the ideal community country, no matter what is happening there; even Cooper was seduced by 'the arm', when it told him about laura with birds singing pretty songs etc., and he woke up dancing with a crazed look on his eyes; cooper failed, was seduced by colors/atoms, failed to see any part of the real problem, that there are no atoms, which led to his madness and breakdown...

The association with the sewer cover and the robot teddy bears is definitely appropriate, since that abomination of the robot teddy monster(obscene father from dumbland) is like a hidden sewer bubbling out of Richard 24/7 that he is desperately trying to destroy.  Richard is really an extremely tragic figure: at one point he was like Johnny, tied up and forced to listen to that obscene teddy bear, and thats why he calls Johnny a 'piece of ....', that 'piece' is bubbling up inside him, which is why he cried after his world was taken over by Red, sending him on that rampage.  Also, being tied up by Sylvia, so he wont be like evil Ben and also Sylvia's revenge on Ben, she wont let his sons be proper men, really it wasnt Richard's fault, and he knows it, thus hatred towards Sylvia. Richard deals with this by opting for suicide instead of solving the problems, he sees no way out to solve the problem, but refuses to die as a dishonored and helpless Johnny/Dougie, femminized and humiliated.  Thus the 'bombs' association hits at this point, he will be killed, like Frank Booth and Bobby Peru....and not defending Richard here, but sometimes choosing that kind of death is better than surviving(like say in a concentration camp, where you are forced to either betray the other 'victims' and help the guards, or engage in suicide and try to kill the guards....movie about this Seven Beauties).  Also remember, Paul Mua'dib Atredies had to drink the 'water of life', which kills men but not women, before he could complete his jihad as a successful revolution; meaning that he had to move from this sort of Richard-like violence, raiding spice production, to getting the worms, the life of the planet on his side, making a law that fixes the problems of life, rather than just destroying like say Mr. C, et al....This is the problem with Richard, he doesnt want to come out of that violence and into a more radical violence which changes the frame of life and law itself(getting the worm/excessive monstrous life power, mouth of the guy on the robot head is the same as the mouth of the worms), and this is coming about through time coming back on itself, where the problem started, laura coming into the door crying, time to fix the problem and end the sleepwalking, everything is not alright....

Or, they could just be paint markers left by inspectors to show the workmen where they need to repair a damaged drain.  Mind you, in this country they use white or hi viz yellow paint for that.
