Theories on how it ends?

Hello everyone. Have been lurking for a few weeks, and enjoyed the discourse (for the most part... wasn't too jazzed with some of the reactions about discussing misogyny in Episode 10, but that's ok).

So, I was wondering if you wanted to postulate any ideas on how you think The Return might end? You can be as detailed or as brief as you'd prefer. Also, I didn't mark the thread as a spoiler, since this will just be speculation.

As for my thoughts, a couple of things:

1) In one of the Showtime trailers from before the show first aired (the ones where they quickly flashed images from the program), one of the shots is of Cooper driving. Looks to be at night. And he's dressed as our old, reliable Dale Cooper. Now, that could either really be good Cooper, finally free from the shackles of Dougie Jones. Or it could be bad Cooper, dressed-up to look like Dale. Regardless, I'm anxious to see that scene.

2) When all's said and done, and good triumphs over evil (hopefully), I'd kind of like to see Dale Cooper go back to Las Vegas and settle down with Janey-E and the kid. She'd be devastated, otherwise, since *her* Dougie is gone, and good Cooper would have (likely) left to fight evil in Twin Peaks. Plus, I kind of like them together, weird as it is.

Finally, my partner has a theory that Laura Palmer will somehow emerge from the Lodge at the end of the series, and rejoin the land of Twin Peaks. I've told him I don't hold much water with that, since Laura is dead in the real world, and therefore couldn't come back to reality like that. But he's thinking this is all about her, and anything could happen.

So, we'll see.

I got nowt, sorry.  I know what I'd want to see but...

Since Kyle M stated there was a good chance of another series, the signs are there will be enough loose ends and/or ambiguities to go forward without losing the viewers' interests or letting them down badly, as happened with so many other shows.

What I'd like is to see Coop, Janey-E and Sonny Jim take a trip to Twin Peaks for the sake of "Dougie's" health, and for things to roll on from there.  Meanwhile, the Bureau guys have linked up with Truman's guys and are all meeting up nearby.

What happens after that, who knows but I'd like to see Special Agent Dale Cooper finally returned, defeating the bad guys, getting Laura to where she should be - whether it's returned to life or at peace in one of the zones, James Hurley to not sing a single damn note, Richard Horne brought to justice and Bowie performing Blackstar at the Roadhouse.

Lots of other stuff, including Coop playing Happy Families with Janey-E and SJ.

By the way, did you know there was a character in the British soap, Coronation Street, named Minnie Cauldwell, who had a cat by the name of Sonny Jim?

I did not know that (re: Coronation Street).

When did Kyle M say that? Do you have a link?

No link but there's something posted in the news section of this site.

Oh, and there's a breakfast cereal here, "Force", with a trademark character "Sunny Jim".  The stuff's been on the go for a long, long time.

I think there will be a fusion of Dougie and BadCoop from where the real Cooper will emerge. Cooper and Laura will then defeat BOB/Mother, but it will come at a price. To ensure no threats like it emerge again, Cooper will depart the physical/earth plane and become the custodian/overseer of the White Lodge.

The story could end there, or if there's a season 4, something will happen that will force Cooper to return.

There's a face-off between the awakened Cooper and Bob in spirit form.  In another reality, the Giant is plunging his hand into the Experiment's stomach, as the Experiment stabs its tongue through the Giant's head.  Then a big explosion.

In the epilogue, at the funeral of Gordon Cole, Denise tells Cooper he's promoted to Cole's seat.  An unknown woman played by Monica Bellucci walks up and kisses Dale.  They walk hand-in-hand as the camera closes in to the woman's mouth, her lips parting to reveal a slimy creature's head and insect legs.

I suspect that all the people sent to kill Dougie will eventually fail cause the only entity who can defeat Dale is his doppelganger (and vice versa). Also it seems that Dale is the only person Mr C is actually afraid of. Otherwise why would he engage so many individuals to kill him instead of doing it himself? So I suspect some face-off between these two halves of the same human being, hopefully nothing in Matrix style:)

Dougie Coop will meet his double (dweller om the threshold) with perfect courage (as we have already seen him display) and be victorious!

So far Cooper has always (ultimately) failed (TP S1 & S2, & TPFWWM). I imagine he will again and take this to be a key Lynch/Frost theme. And, Laura is dead (and many of our other heroes on the "threshold"). So, it will end badly, truthfully, enlighteningly.

Not sure but I think someone will have to make a great sacrifice to either rid the world of the Bob evil (or perhaps something even worse) or otherwise return balance to the world.

My suspicion is that the black and white scene of the "???????" and Cooper talking about "it" being in "our house now" may be the final scene.  Perhaps that will all make sense at the end?

and Bowie performing Blackstar at the Roadhouse.

OMG.

That would completely blow my mind... what a fantastic thought.

It would be brilliant to see a cameo from David Bowie.  I know he was really ill, but he seemed to be very much in 'going out with a bang' mode...

Coop peaked (:-)) mid way in season 2 when he cracked the chewing gum code to identify Leland Palmer as Laura's killer.  He was the Zen detective master at this stage.  It has been  downhill ever since: stripped of his FBI badge, falling in love with Annie, outwitted by Windom Earle and, finally, his disastrous performance in the Black Lodge ("wrong way!").  It's difficult to see how he can fail this time and survive.
