I just listened to No Stars and Llorando, firstly with the visuals as well, then just with the audio.  Interesting that Llorando's considerable emotional punch comes from having the visuals there as well (particularly Watts' reaction).  Listening to just the audio, No Stars comes across as comparable.

I wonder whether Lynch ran out of steam a little with the Roadhouse scenes, in that they're fairly conventional band/audience scenes (though I did notice a few Captain Scarlet style Mysteron circles on the red curtains in Ep10).  The Julee Cruise scenes were much better done in the original series - mass punch ups in the audience, giants appearing on stage, Donna bursting into tears.

Final point - will the Log Lady's suggestion that darkness is coming, and the "No Stars" song literally come true?

I noticed the circles. They reminded me of the circle of white paint around the pool of scorched engine oil and the entrance to the Black Lodge...

They seem to be making us think that scenario is possible! With some of the big themes brought into this season, it wouldn't surprise me  if it is headed to the end of the world, but I doubt it.

Harry Dean Stanton (I've loved that man ever since I saw Repo Man in the 80s; thank God he's still with us, and apparently immortal) sings,

"For they say you are taking the sunshine
That has brightened our pathway a while."

Were there any hints about this coming darkness prior to Episode 10?  It's all over Ep 10

Thanks for mentioning Stanton. I much preferred his song to the overproduced, maudlin mess in the Roadhouse.

I'm working on an angle about the "No Stars" mix.  Perhaps Lynch has deliberately thrown a wet blanket of over-production and bad lip-syncing over it in the same way that the Club Silencio performance in Mulholland Drive had "No Band", to make it deliberately false and artificial.  We are at this stage of TP3, after all, in the "version layer" as the excellent Candie tells us.  If it turns out that everything that's going on is trapped in some time-bubble, that an entire alternate "manufactured for a purpose" history was spawned by the creation of Coop's doppelganger appearing at the end of Season 2, then the manufactured mix of "No Stars" may make some sense.
