@SamXT: remember episode 3.02 timecode 35:00, Mr. C making contact-via-suitcase with whom he thinks is Phillip Jeffries? He hears from the other end of the line: 'You met with major Garland Briggs'. Mr. C answers: 'How did you know that?'

Do you think this is a reference to 25 years ago (the other side thinking it's the 'old Cooper' on the line?), or Mr. C being there when William Hastings/Ruth Davenport found Briggs recently? In S3E2 it's the point where Mr. C starts doubting if he is really talking to Jeffries...

I was willing to - grudgingly - accept continuity gremlins for the magical punctuation transformation of Mr. C's message to Diane.  But there is no way this glimmering, twinkling (even with "No Stars" visible ;-)) doorknob (portal opener) is a mistake.

Much has been made on this Part Ten section of the forum about how disappointing this episode was for some.  However, upon re-watching, I believe that it contains perhaps the most important scene seen so far.

Consider how jam-packed with clues and information that small sequence was:

  • Gordon's drawing of the seven-spotted dog with Douglas firs as antlers and a hand reaching down from the heavens towards it (not to mention the empty ashtray behind him - way to go Gordo!  ;-))
  • Cole's vision of Laura on the threshold (of a dream) before he even sees Albert, at the same time a man's voice calls out "Laaaura" (could be Leland, I couldn't tell for sure)
  • Albert's news that dirty Diane, uh, (sorry MJ ;-)) sent a heavily encrypted message to Mr. C about Hastings and "the site"
  • And Gordon's reply: "That confirms it"
  • Tammy, in slow motion, walking down a hallway drenched in, and infused with, gold (the same hue as Laura's orb as she is birthed, Athena-like, from the forehead of the Fireman)
  • The blurring of the door knob
  • Tammy's picture of Mr. C and another, so-far-unidentified man in front of the billionaire's Lodge portal
  • And finally Gordon's (Lynch's - the show's writer, creator and let's face it - God (sorry MF)) solemnly intoning, "This is something.  This is really something."

And all that in just three minutes!  =:-O

Oh, and I was going to add but I forgot:

If you listen very closely, right before Albert knocks, someone rattles the door handle - Cole doesn't hear it.

At first, I thought it was Albert doing it, probably just upset because his date with Constance was interrupted by FBI business.

But I'm starting to think it was Laura trying to physically manifest herself into our world.  Again, I think the hallway saturated with gold (please re-watch to see for yourselves what I mean) was an afterglow indication of her spiritual presence.

Who the heck knows?  😉

It never really sat right with me how we seemingly see Laura's spirit taken into the custody of angels at the end of FWWM, but then we start out this 3rd season with Laura (or, I suppose a doppleganger of her) still in the lodge with Dale, 25 years later.  She then mistakenly tells him he can leave when evidently it's not that simple.  And then, boom, something that appears painful happens to her - like she's sucked out of the lodge.

Is that our clue?  Is Laura's spirit not where it is supposed to be?  Is that what Leland meant when he said "Find Laura?", suggesting she is missing?  Is that why "she's the one"?

Considering we've seen that someone has built that glass box device, ostensibly for the purposes of trapping entities moving between both worlds - and whoever did so appears on the surface to have been mere mortal humans (or maybe Evil C), then what similar vodoo might the forces inhabiting the lodges be capable of with all of their extra-dimensional wizardry?

I think the other person - not necessarily Jeffries - knows he's speaking to Bad Coop, and most likely referring to when Briggs died.

Phrased that way because, for all we know, Bad Coop and Briggs may have met several times prior to Briggs' death.

"One chance out between two worlds"

And that's through the Doors of Perception!  😉

Isn't it chants instead of chance?

Hi Fish,

There's a yrev, very good chance it's actually "chance".  😉

- /< /\ /> -

While I would never want to subject your interpretation or enjoyment of the show with it being chance as oppose to chants, for me it's always been chants as in once chants out between two worlds (the phrase) - Fire walk with me. I also believe it's written in TSHOTP somewhere. That said, maybe it's meant to be ambiguous, but I personally don't think so. 🙂

That scene, for me was scary. Eerie. And I don't scare easily. Great scene.

Yeah, it completely freaked me out - butterflies in the stomach, arms tingling for a minute afterwards, total adrenaline spike - very unexpected.

Could it be that Laura, who was distressed, was warning Cole that the news Albert had was a very big deal indeed and danger is growing; or was it Laura's reaction to the news that Diane is a wrong 'un?

Has anyone identified which FWWM scene Laura's vision was from?

Indeed. Same. Freaked me out.

I believe it was Laura screaming in horror after realising her Dad, Leland just left her house after she run out seeing Bob in her bedroom. She then went to Donn'a house and from memory was still screaming when Donna opened the door to meet her that day. Moment of absolute horror in her life. Maybe the intensity of the feelings of horror she felt at time echoes onto to present day Gordon. Why in that exact moment Gordon saw and felt the vision, I am not clear on yet.

Banging on the door: Gordon has a major reaction because his hearing aid is cranked way up to hear Albert whisper.

She's crying & says to Donna: "Are you my best friend?" Of course she never reveals to Donna what's upset her.

As 2EyedJacks says above, the image of Laura is taken from FWWM when she runs to Donna's house after seeing Leland leave.  I wonder if there's any reason her image flips to face the other direction & then goes back?  It just caught my eye as obviously there's a hundred & one ways the images could be tweaked & that just seemed strangely 'How to make things look a bit different 101' if you know what I mean...

eric, here's a sample pic from FWWM that is close, she looks similar, I don't think they altered her to look worse.  Note that it's reversed from the viewpoint seen in FWWM.  And as others pointed out, it is when she is at the threshold of Donna's door talking to her.

Ric, the rattling I think is just the marker when he makes the circle on the wrist/cuff.  Maybe it's a combo sound.

I could be wrong but it looked like a clip from FWWM to my eyes.  ISTR she looked quite haggard in some scenes.

Hi SamX,

I'm pretty sure this is the "Donna are you my best friend?!" scene from FWWM.

😉

- /< /\ /> -

I think so too. I watched it recently. I think it was swapped over though, as in she appeared from the right in FWWM, but from the left in at least some of this scene, which in itself may be something... Hmmm, now I need to see the Gordon answering the door scene again... 🙂

Thank you for that kind expression of sympathy (-;

BTW, the voice calling "Laura" when Gordon opens the door is Sarah Palmer's voice, slowed down. It is from Dale's dream in S1 ep. 3 (depending on how you count).
