I have watch the first 4 episodes and each episode ends with a band playing at the Bang Bang Bar. I find the music at the end of episode 2 CHROMATICS "SHADOW" an amplified and too electric version of the music traditionally played on a Twin Peaks episode. It's like a show on MTV throwing a band on a high profile show to promote it's self.
I like the old rockabilly sound that lead the pacing of some of the scenes of the old series. Although I do hear it in a few scenes, the lack of scoring a scene seems to sanitize most of what I have seen so far.
I agree the rockabilly sound was great and loved the operatic feel of the old show. Characters and situations had themes, and they were played constantly. To me, that sound will always be 50% of the aesthetic of the original.
This score/sound design seemed reflective of his recent stuff. The Chromatics kept the haunting voice feel while making it known that this is bang bang 2017. For me, the evolution is welcomed.
I wonder, though, if in 20 years or so, future viewers of this season will looks back on these musical performances as nostalgiacally as we do on Julee Cruise's performances.
I thought the music was superb at the end. Different to the original series of course but for me still very much Twin Peaks. Very similar to Julee Cruise in many respects....just a new take on things (and yes, more electronic)
I feel like Trent reznor has something to do with every creak squeal and bang of the scoring, I don't see his name in the credits but it SOUNDS like him, the previews were the first sign of sounds to come, suuuper creepo!
I really like that at the end we have performens at the bar!
I loved the "Everly Brothers-sound-alikes" The Cactus Blossoms. Completely new to me.
In my opinion music is ok but has nothing to do with the previous season. And having a band at the end of each episode is too predictable. Kills the surprise factor.
We'll see if that will continue though. the 1st ep didnt have one at the end right? the 2-3-4 yes
Unless if 1 and 2 were like one episode!
