Just when I think I've seen it all, "Heathers: The Musical" is born (my all time favorite teen angst movie from Jr. High) Of course I'm going to go see it!

This got me thinking...... "Twin Peaks: The Musical."

Would you go see it? I sure as hell would!

I can't even explain how much I hate musicals, even though I have to mix them.  There are 2 different styles in my opinion:

             1. The show that breaks out into song occasionally, ie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or The Sound of Music.

             2. The show that is all music and singing, ie Sunset Blvd (injected into the conversation on purpose) and Sweeney Todd.

In my opinion wanting to break into song every now and then, based on circumstances, is completely acceptable and often realistic.

Wanting to have every line sung is narcissistic (as show tunes writer) and completely unrealistic.  Which of course means I want NOTHING to do with it.

Now examining the possibility of Twin Peaks as a musical has interesting merits, if we are discussing season 1 or 2...actually 2 lends itself well to musical interpretation. but in no way shape or form would season 3 be transferable to musical form and still be accepted by the hardcore fanatics.

I mean cone on, we still haven't digested the broadcast yet...

Jack

Yeah, I really can't see it. I mean, I would definitely want to see it if Lynch and/or Frost were directly involved, but I really can't imagine such a thing.

I like musicals, but I have to admit I chafed a bit even at the notion of the Heathers one. All I can say is that it had better, at least, include a HUGE production of "Teenage Suicide (don't do it)"

But, I guess I just generally don't like all of these remakes and the like. I prefer more original musicals. The Book of Mormon was great, for example. (I also love Sweeney Todd, and Sondheim generally - but then again, I also enjoy opera). I guess I am just generally more interested in new ideas than I am in people rehashing old ideas.

I hate musicals.

It would cheapen this amazing series beyond recognition.

Ok, I agree with both of you about musicals - all singing/some singing.  I agree with Jack because I like it when they break into song within dialogue.  However, I like opera too and enjoy Sweeney Todd (wasn't it originally an opera originally?)  However, the ALL signing musicals (IMO) are MUCH better live.  Watching Les Miserables on the screen was painful for me, as was Burton's Sweeney Todd. But love them both live.

Yes Cameron, there better be A WHOLE LOTTA "Teendage Suicide (don't do it).  And I'm really, really excited. It's kind of a weird staple in my life. In fact I own MANY copies of the movie from VHS to Digital and everything in between.  People who know me well buy me random copies just because.....even if they've purchased me copies in the past.  It's a weird tradition. So to see it "live" is a highlight of my "teen angst bullshit has a body count" life. Don't judge me. Or judge me all you want.  I'm not ashamed.   ?

With that being said, I can think of lots of ways to turn TP into a musical, just for shites and giggles. It's kind of a weird talent of mine. But it would be a partial signing production, not ALL singing, that would just make it cheesy.  ?  And mostly I would love to see Mr. C singing and dancing about.

Lol, sorry but I have to laugh at "cheapen" considering all possible things....

Sometimes such things can be an hommage and sometimes it can be therapeutic. I'd be all for it so long as it was something being done for art and not to make money off it.

As long as Dr. Frankenfurter is brought in as a consultant, I'm totally into it.  (Richard O'brien, really).

There are some fine musicals out there:  Team America World Police, fuck yeah; Little Shop of Horrors, The Wizard of Oz - let's not forget, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Nightmare Before Christmas!  Tommy, I personally like Evita, not to mention all those wackadoo Disney drecks, of which we all have one or two that make us happy.  C'mon, Sword in the Stone?  Classic.

When they're done right, you never have that moment where you say, "oh, it's a musical...", it's just a good movie that you can tap along to and hum tomorrow.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that video. lol

There are also a couple of Twin Peaks burlesque places that exist. That might be the closest to a live musical experience as will be possible. (I haven't been)

I like it but not what I was referring to.  My thought is more of the whole story with singing and dancing added in.  ?
