Kyle MacLachlan’s Memoir Is A Book Of Doppelgangers

Kyle MacLachlan surprised us on Twin Peaks Day 2026 with the announcement of his memoir titled Fictional Selves, out later 2026 as hardcover, e-book, and self-narrated audiobook.

Kyle MacLachlan surprised us on Twin Peaks Day 2026 with the announcement of his memoir titled Fictional Selves. Set for publication in Fall 2026, the book offers a deeply personal, candid, and playfully self-aware look at his 40-year Hollywood career.

Fictional Selves is described as ‘a book of doppelgangers,’ with MacLachlan mirrored by his own prodding ego (“Other Kyle”), the iconic characters he inhabited, and the ones that eluded his grasp but gave him a profound and surprising lens onto himself as a person and a performer.

Everywhere I go I am followed by a mystery man. He looks like me but—not quite. On talk shows, I sip coffee on couches and pretend to be him; on social media, I put on his mask to engage in suburban silliness. And of course, we work together. But for him, the movies and TV shows never end. Where does this guy—this Kyle MacLachlan—end and where do I begin? And is he even real? And, holy mackerel . . . am I?

─Kyle MacLachlan

Kyle’s stories will obviously cover Showgirls his collaborations with David Lynch, and other memorable roles such as Dr. Trey MacDougal in Sex And The City, Orson Hodge in Desperate Housewives, and the pool guy from Showgirls. Century’s Publishing Director, Ben Brusey, gives a little more insight:

“From the opening lines of Fictional Selves, it is clear that Kyle MacLachlan is as singular on the page as he is on screen. This remarkable memoir, which plays with identity in the most deliciously MacLachlan way, blurs the lines between man, myth and the many unforgettable characters Kyle MacLachlan has embodied. His reflections on ambition, artistry, love and fatherhood are as honest as they are sharply funny, offering readers more than a glimpse behind the curtain of an extraordinary career… It will delight fans of Agent Dale Cooper – to be read, of course, with a cup of coffee and a serving of cherry pie.”

Now, live on stage, Kyle will offer an utterly original account of his offbeat journey in Hollywood and the projects that have shaped who he is today. Insightful, refreshingly earnest, and droll, he will chronicle his humble beginnings in idyllic Yakima, Washington, the lifelong hesitance to fame that shadowed him early on, and how this manifested in the alter ego he aptly calls “Other Kyle”.

Don’t miss the chance to hear behind-the-scenes stories from his most famous roles and lessons learned along the way, his unwavering and long-lasting relationship with late director and close friend David Lynch, on and off-screen romantic entanglements, his own take on being a father, and much more. You’ll also have the chance to put your own questions to the man of the hour himself.
