On July 16th, two weeks ahead of the official Twin Peaks Blu-ray release, a couple of hundred lucky invitees witnessed The Missing Pieces from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me for the very first time.

The world premiere at the small Vista Theatre in Los Angeles was also attended by over a dozen of very special guests. Here’s a list of Twin Peaks cast and crew members spotted walking down the red carpet black and white zig zag carpet a few minutes before the screening started: Angelo Badalamenti, Ray Wise, Sheryl Lee, Grace Zabriskie, Russ Tamblyn, Miguel Ferrer, James Marshall, Peggy Lipton, Mädchen Amick, Kimmy Robertson, Catherine E. Coulson, Caleb Deschanel, Mary Jo Deschanel, Bob Engels and David Lynch. The director then hurried into the theater to introduce the screening of the long-awaited deleted and extended scenes from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me. Here’s a transcript of his completely fitting speech, followed by a video recording.

There is an abundance of fish in the sea. But tonight, I would like to speak about wood. There are many times in the world when the phone rings and someone is inquiring about wood. This happens primarily at lumber yards and in this case, it’s necessary to have a phone. It is only natural that trees are growing and that they are made of wood. Much happiness can come from observing a tree and the same can be said about observing the many shapes fashioned out of wood. Quite often when we are talking about beauty, we are talking about wood. Thank you very much!

Lenny Von Dohlen aka Harold Smith wore a fitting jacket to the premiere, but a blue rose would’ve made his outfit complete

Even the always busy Miguel Ferrer attended (but I’m still waiting for that Albert Rosenfield spin-off)

Mary Jo Deschanel aka Eileen Hayward was there with her husband Caleb

Hands down the coolest photo of the night was taken by the Blu-ray’s producer Charles De Lauzirika and stars Ray Wise, Grace Zabriskie, David Lynch, Sheryl Lee, and Russ Tamblyn

Can’t wait to get this, but if its called “the missing pieces” and thought of as the complete story, I’m a bit saddened that (from what I hear) no attempt was made to clear up the cliffhangers from the final episode. Not Cooper’s fate, as that is suitably apocalyptic, but rather some info on what happened to Leo, Ben and the people in the bank. They could have come up with a five minute scene that at least provided some closure. I know David Lynch filmed a conversation with Ray Wise, Grace Zabriskie and Sheryl Lee in character. One quick idea…he could have filmed Grace Zabriskie doing some sort of fake 25 years later interview with a local Twin Peaks reporter, or her doing some sort of video diary. I don’t know. There are a million ways. A montage of Twin Peaks Gazettes that filled in what happened. Oh well.

This might be old news now; but I know he was discussing the possibility of bringing Twin Peaks back in some form. Maybe he stayed away from closing the cliff hangers because he still holds hope that he may be able to bring the story back it’s forced premature burial by executive corporate idiots. I’d rather hold out some hope that Twin Peaks will be revived or rebooted (or something) than get some cheap extra on a Blu Ray that closes cliff-hangers to an ending that was never supposed to be. Just my opinion. (Love Twin Peaks – one of my all time favorite shows to be on television; but also one of the worst endings ever. The rest of the series makes up for it – but when I think what could’ve been; had Lynch been able to continue it on indefinitely (or for much longer) the way they had originally intended – never revealing Laura’s murderer, etc – how incredible and even more memorable it could’ve been.)

*could’ve been – it just drive me insane.)
