Bat For Lashes - Laura (Palmer?)

Bat For Lashes released their new single called Laura yesterday, and whether singer-songwriter Natasha Khan actually intended it or not, every Twin Peaks fan will likely identify the titular character as Laura Palmer. The video certainly doesn’t hint at it, but the lyrics can easily be interpreted within the context of the murdered prom queen. Also note that the single debuted exactly one day after Laura Palmer’s birthday (Sunday July 22).

You say that the evil left you behind
Your heart broken,
A part of you died

Keep your arms around me and softly say
Can we dance upon the tables again?

When you smile so wide
Your heels are so high
You can’t cry, get your glad rags on
And let’s sing along
To that lonely song
Is a train that crashed my heart
You’re the glitter in the dark

Uh, Laura you’re more than a superstar
And in this horror show
I’ve got to let you know
Uh, Laura you’re more than a superstar

We see each other stuck in a pale blue dream
And your tears feel hard on my bed sheets
Keep your arms around me and softly say
Can we dance upon the tables again?

When you smile so wide
Your heels are so high
You can’t cry but you’re glad
Vibe’s on and let’s sing along
To that lonely song
You’re the train that crashed my heart
You’re the glitter in the dark
Uh, Laura you’re more than a superstar
You’ll be famous for longer and then
Your name is tattooed on every boy’s skin
Uh, Laura you’re more than a superstar

You’re the train that crashed my heart
You’re the glitter in the dark
Uh, Laura you’re more than a superstar
And in this horror show
I’ve got to let you know
Uh, Laura you’re more than a superstar
You’re more than a superstar

  1. Laura…Palmer? ‘We see each other stuck in a pale blue dream’ http://t.co/ybj17m9i

  2. Brooke says:

You’ve got some of the lyrics wrong.

    You have:
You say that the evil left you behind
    Your heart broken,
    A part of you died

    It’s really:
You say that they’ve all left you behind
Your heart broke when the party died

  3. Brooke says:

(but yes, I feel like it’s about Laura Palmer, as well)

  4. H.V. says:

Good song, but assuming that it is about Laura Palmer is a big stretch.
