I am trying to work out exactly what happened between Cooper and Diane that meant that a mutual affection was immediately demonstrated after their reunion at the Twin Peaks Sheriff station, given that his long captivity was in part due to a sacrifice made for another woman, whose fate is obscure. (I believe Annie's absence was deliberate  as Heather Graham was not approached regarding a return.)

I understand that Cooper may have resisted a relationship with Diane previously for reasons given in s2.

I wonder if it's all intended to add to the impression that cautious, considerate, gentle Cooper is ebbing away. In a way, the evolution (or corruption) of his character is more depressing than the erasure of all events following Laura's murder. Does it come back to the possibility that the seed of Dougie 2.0 robbed Coop of some goodness? Even bad Coop thought to ask how Annie was.

Unless good Coop, "good"Coop, already learned a thing or two about Annie's fate from the giant...

I've only watched s3 once (I'd gladly watch it all again immediately, but unfortunately life gets in the way), so can anyone tell me if I missed anything?

I should let it go, but this forum is full of people who clearly haven't, and I love it!

I've watched it a few  times and I  still don't know  lol

It made no sense to me on the first watch, and I  hated the Coop and Diane romance.  I wanted he and Annie to get back together.

In reality (hah) the coop and annie relationship was little more than a fling. How long were they together for in season 2 - a week max? Having recently re watched season 2, in todays times Cooper's advances on her could also come across as taking advantage of her delicate state (it just seems a bit dated now). Also consider that Annie would have had 25 years to get over Cooper and have a family of her own and would probably try hard to move on from those events, not to mention she would be going through some serious therapy!

So I can understand why they didn't write her into the Return. A couple more references would have been nice though.

She hasn't had a nice life according to the Final Dossier  ?

I suppose if Diane was Naido, then Cooper also remembers that time she fell off what I assume was a teleportational air conditioning unit for the lodges into deep space. Perhaps he also realised that a dimension of his personality existed in the rapist.

Who suffered more on account of Dale Cooper - Diane or Annie? And bloody hell, what about Audrey?

That man is very bad news.

Agreed,   he certainly takes a toll on the ladies around him.      Then,  at the end he rides off like some crazed white knight to try to save Laura as well.     But,  was he actually helping her,   or doing something for himself?

I need to watch it all again, but I was under the impression that he witnessed the screaming removal of Laura from the Black Lodge, and deduced that his mission was to find her, even though her disappearance from the Lodge is the result of an intervention he was yet to perform.

While I'm curious about the many loose ends left in every episode, the questions that I find most intriguing relate to the not-quite-rightness of Cooper. Is it down to Black Lodge institutionalisation, PTSD, brain damage from two separate instances of electrocution, or (my personal favourite) some metaphysical splintering of spirit due to the soul-sapping effects of multiple cloning events?

I don't see the different Richard /Coop that most people  do.

Yeah just for a minute at the diner, but ffs he's just time travelled.

At Carries house and tge Palmer house he's  absolutely  Coop. He even introduces himself as Agent Cooper.

I'm really keen to rewatch now, although perhaps selectively. And yes, given that he'd experienced 25 years away from civilisation, an electrocution and time travel, it would have been suspicious if he'd taken out his dictaphone and started waxing lyrical about Douglas firs and pie.
