Something awful.  Something that would want her to never see Coop again.

I'm thinking he sexually assaulted her, and the FBI didn't believe her due to the real Dale Cooper's character, which is why she was so angry with the other FBI agents.

This probably explains why Diane cursed every FBI agent she encountered (including the newbie Tammy Preston) prior to her meeting with EvilCoop at his cell.

Maybe when it happened, she had a feeling like "this isn't Cooper" but ignored that and just went with it having been Cooper, and now visiting "Mr. C." at the prison the feeling is MUCH stronger & clearer, so she knows it wasn't the real Coop.

and that's maybe the reason why she started drinking

That could explain a lot, i agree!

Also if he really visited Audrey what happened there? was she in coma or not?

But yeah Diane's and Coop (Evil Coop) relationship 25 years ago didnt end well i guess for whatever reason..

Rewatching Diane questioning Mr. C this morning...when Diane asks "Do you remember that night?" and Mr. C says "I'll never forget it," and Diane says the same, it seems like they're saying it for vastly different reasons: C in a positive/creepy way, Diane full of disgust. And when Diane leaves, she's physically shaking and immediately starts smoking and drinking (as she was leading up to the encounter, too). Not to mention that talk she needed to have with Gordon--alone.

So yes, given all that evidence on top of BOB's old tendencies, I'd guess pretty strongly that he raped her and went on his merry way, leaving her traumatized and questioning everything she knew about Cooper and the FBI itself.

"Cheers...to the FBI."

Interesting. I really didn't read the scene that way at all.

I read it that the two (Dine and good Coop) shared a moment - possibly sexual - but that whatever happened did so before the events of Twin Peaks.

I saw her as being angry at coop because he abandoned her following the events of Twin Peaks.

That said - we really don't know what interaction with his family, friend and colleagues bad coop had after the events of Twin Peaks. If any at all.

Hmmm. The scenes with Diane in this episode were epic for me, particularly her moments with Gordon, so tender, especially when she held him, and he wasn't quite sure what to do, probably because he'd not seen that side of her before. A tough cookie he said to Albert at her apartment.

I've just watched it over again which I do before I read anything online. I'm intrigued to have my opinion changed (when new information comes to light - to quote the Big Lebowski 🙂 ), but I wonder if Diane ever met Evil Coop. Rather like Coop in Dougie's place, he follows what is said and repeats and because he didn't remember or there hadn't been 'that night' for Evil Coop, I think took her lead of 'Do you remember that night?' It's easy to think up a plausible answer to that, 'I'll never forget it,' being the most logical.

On top of that, given that Diane said to Gordon. 'That's not the Cooper I remember,' and, 'there's something missing in here,' she said touching her heart. This to me implies that when she last saw him, although clearly traumatic for her, he had the heart more likely in the real Coop, than Evil Coop. Wouldn't she have seen that lack of heart in the Evil Coop had that night happened with him? Perhaps she'd been in love with him all along and he let her down roughly rather than gently. I guess the only caveat could be that he was still growing into the Coop he'd replaced so could have been more charming and heartful 25 years ago than he is now.

What are people's opinions as to whether Coop saw Diane after going to Twin Peaks during the first two seasons? Unlike in FWWM there were no scenes of Coop back in Philadelphia with Gordon et al. It remained in Twin Peaks, so from an iceberg story point of view we were only meant to see that he remained in Twin Peaks. By that rationale could we assume Diane only got the tapes and perhaps phone calls?

It's a strange world we've entered, that is for sure. 🙂

I understand the reasoning that Cooper had been with Diane before the events of the original Twin Peaks and that being why she's bitter...but then why such a massive difference between then and now? Why Diane cussing out every member of the FBI and trying to distance herself as much as possible from them? That can't be how she was before she got the job. She wouldn't have gotten the job.

I'd like to think that, if Diane and Coop had had a relationship before the Black Lodge, Coop would have been sensitive about breaking it off, like he was with Audrey during the original series. The idea that he had broken things off with her so abruptly as to make her so extremely bitter as this is entirely contrary to Cooper's character, in my mind at least.

As to the idea that EvilCoop has been relearning human behavior much as DougieCoop has been--Mr. C is 25 years old. For him to be parroting information like an infant seems a bit absurd.

I agree regarding its absurdity. It wasn't a direct comparison or a very good one now I think about it. I was trying to articulate that he was perhaps making it up as he went along because he'd never been there, so was using whatever he could to try to convince her he was the real Coop, so took her lead on that conversation about 'that night.' 🙂

I agree the good Coop would have been extremely sensitive as he was / is very aware in terms of his social and emotional intelligence.

Interesting someone else pointed out that perhaps she wanted to believe that it was good Coop 'that night,' but this meeting confirmed it wasn't.

Truth is, I dunno, but am excited for every episode, whatever happens. 🙂

As we saw when Gordon & Albert arrived, a young stud is leaving. Whether  a one-night thing or ongoing relationship, that suggests to me the thing in the past may not have been a rape, just "Mr. C." used her when she though it was Coop, and then walked away from her after, feeling his coldness was not like him, but unsure.

I think if Diane was indeed raped, the situation is made complicated as Diane seems to be in love with Coop also.

The way she begged him to look at her I think screams desperate longing.  Mixed in with anger and fear.
