Somewhat off-topic: Do you think Lucy's "I understand cellular phones now" could be taken to mean she uncovered telepathy, was able to see Andy's Fireman vision, and knew she had to go walk to that certain spot (gun in hand)?? It COULD be taken that way, in addition to being hilarious.

Thank you!

Is that the exhaustive list?

You're welcome! That's all that I'm aware of as far as physical locations are concerned and remember that the Fireman showed Andy "only" three of the utility poles.

What are all the places where electrical pole 6 shows up? Is there a list anywhere?

The Fat Trout Trailer Park in Deer Meadow (FWWM).

The New Fat Trout Trailer Park in Twin Peaks (TPTR).

Carrie's House in Odessa, TX (TPTR).

Hi Caoimhín,

Location number 2 in your list would be the one where the hit and run scene took place? Didn't Carl took a ride to get there? I think he left the Fat Trout in the van and ended up witnessing the hit and run in a different location, where pole 6 is shown to us. Wasn't that the some crossing where the FWWM honk and yell scene took place?

It's the same crossroad, yes.

The real trailer park location in Snoqualmie (filmed for FWWM)  was less than 100 yards from this crossroad.

The Google street view is old (2008), this trailer park was destroyed in 2010

To see the crossroad, just few clicks on the right :

And the real pole#6 in the middle of the trailer park is gone too in 2010.

Justine, I keep coming back to this thread. It really is a brilliant find and I am surprised this has not spread wider yet. "The Owls Are Not What They Seem" was a key phrase back in the day. And the link to the telegraph poles / "electricity" / house numbers is a wonder to behold !

Aw, thanks! I'm amazed by the response on this thread, and so many interesting tie-ins, comments, and additions. That's one of my favorite things about Twin Peaks -- the enduring mysteries and the wonderful community that tries to crack them. 🙂

One of the best threads I've seen. Darnit I wish I had seen the finale at the beginning of the month and was here for all the threads.

Incredible find Justine!!

And yeah, I've been thinking about that owl in Janey-E's first scene forever. Seemed like that and Lucy's pin were the only owls this season--until the one in the woods at the end. Now we know there are owls all over the place. And the business about cell phones vs. landlines is really something to think about.

Thanks -- it was sort of a fortunate accident. I got thinking that maybe "OWL" was an acronym, and then stumbled on that diagram. My jaw sort of dropped when I read the numbers because it just seemed too coincidental. For all I know, this has absolutely nothing to do with anything and was never even on Lynch's radar, but it sure is a sweet bit of synchronicity!

"When two separate events occur simultaneously pertaining to the same object of inquiry, we must always pay strict attention!"

Don't let me bury the exhaustive list search, but I thought I'd broach this oddity - Doesn't Margaret have a perfectly modern phone...right next to the perfectly odd (and muilt-line) phone that she uses to speak with Hawk?

I know too little, but it bothered me from the get go.

It was filmed at Catherine Coulson home and this is probably her own phone.

That is an interesting fact, and a totally reasonable conclusion, but way back when we were talking about cell phone clocks and timing of texts sent/recieved I decided that for me, I firmly believe that Lynch makes a clear and specific decision for any and all visual details on screen.  No way they just didn't want to move one of those phones.  I like her lamp a lot though.

That's great ! I found a source. Here you go:

http://www.insulators.info/articles/openwire/

There is something interesting:

"Phantoms are derived from wires 1-4, 7-10, 11-14, 17-20, and 5-6, 15-16. The last is called a vertical or Pole pair phantom and has somewhat different electrical characteristics than the other phantoms because of the different spacing and configuration of the wires. Similarly the characteristics of the "non-pole-pair" side circuits such as 1-2 or 9-10, with 12 inch spacing between wires, are slightly different from those of the pole-pair circuits like 15-16, where the distance between wires is 18 inches."

So can it be, 5-6 15-16 are only reserved for godlike beings ? Cooper cannot enter socket with 15 on it, Naido shown him dead. After change there is 3. The one for normal beings.

Thanks for the great speculations and additions, everyone! This is why I love Twin Peaks fans. 🙂 Renata -- that's awesome! It really adds to the curiosity. I mean, maybe none of this has anything to do with the ideas of Lynch and Frost, but wow -- such freaky coincidences, if nothing else.

Also, Cooper returns to the real world in episode 3, and remembers who he is in episode 15 (when he electrocutes himself with a fork)... And 315 was the number of Cooper's room in the great northern hotel... Numbers everywhere!!!

Interesting... so there are three instances of electrical pole 6 in the series? (6-6-6)

I just want to say that this thread rocks!  Luckily, I can add something to the discussion as well.  3 instances of electrical pole #6 = 666 = Name of the Best (Revelation 3:18).  We can assume this is significant because Garland is reading aloud from Revelation in "The Missing Pieces."

Revelation is known for being insane and scary, but it ends with the creation of a New Jerusalem that lacks all the weight/dirt of a physical city.  Certain aspects of the description of the city do much to link up The Return and FWWM:

"The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city, its gates, and its walls... The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl.  The great street of the city was of pure gold, like transparent glass... The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of the God gives it light."

I don't suppose it will surprise anybody at this point that I interpret this passage as a realization of the boundless light of the natural mind (rigpa), freed from the obscuration/alteration imposed by karma.  This light is always available "within," even when one is trapped "between two worlds" without the sun and moon above one's head.

Those who are tired of hearing about the bardo can focus momentarily on angel (~Laura) and measuring rod (~log).

Those who are in the mood for a little more of my view can look for Annie in Revelation 12:14: "The woman was given the two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly to a place prepared for her in the desert, where she would be taken care of for a time, times, and half a time, out of the serpent's reach."

The Arm mentions "time and time again," but it does not mention half a time (as good an interpretation as any re: where E18 ends).

Annie be flyin' on ahead of Dale like:

In terms of the lack of actual owls in the Return (having obvious screen time or a mention anyway), do you think they were not covered because Lynch or Frost found the idea of spirits flying in owl form a bit lackluster, or didn't find it particularly important to the story?

I find the electricity pole theory much more interesting!
